GROW Advocacy Success: National Bank of Ukraine Aligns Credit Union Regulations with Global Best Practices
KYIV, Ukraine—The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has approved amendments to align credit union regulations with the laws of Ukraine and global best practices. Adopted on December 27, 2024, under Resolution No. 177, these changes took effect on January 1, 2025.

Ukrainian MSMEs Gain Access to Enhanced Credit Union Financing to Fuel Business Growth
KYIV, Ukraine—The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU) GROW Project in Ukraine (2024-28) on December 26 made $1.5 million available to Ukrainian credit unions to boost lending to micro-, small- and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) as they continue to navigate the ongoing challenges of wartime conditions.

Empowering Communities: GWLN Grants Deliver Tangible Impact in Kenya and Mongolia
MADISON, Wis.—The Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) is pleased to share the outcomes of its 2023 Empowerment Grant initiatives that supported over 760 individuals in Kenya and Mongolia, increased Kenyan farmers’ incomes by 20% and provided 112 Mongolian credit union leaders with training on sustainable finance, driving economic empowerment and sustainability in rural communities.

European Network of Credit Unions (ENCU) Advocates for Proportional Regulatory Treatment in Brussels
MADISON, Wis.—Fourteen representatives of the European Network of Credit Unions (ENCU) last week converged on Brussels, Belgium to share the credit union mission with newly elected officials and advocate for regulatory relief from the European Commission’s Regulation on Financial Data Access (FiDA)— a new framework for access to customer data, and how that data is shared and used across a wide range of financial services.

President Zelenskyy Signs Amendments to Ukraine’s Law on Credit Unions
KYIV, Ukraine—Months of advocacy efforts by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU) Credit for Agriculture Producers (CAP) and GROW Projects in Ukraine, and WOCCU’s two Ukrainian member credit union associations, resulted in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signing amendments to Ukraine’s Law on Credit Unions that eliminate the need for credit unions to obtain a separate license to provide payment services and allow united credit unions to raise funds in foreign currencies.
