America's Credit Unions
Jim Morrell joined the WOCCU Board in 2024. He leads the Peninsula Community Federal Credit Union in Shelton, Washington State, with a dedicated team of 75. He's a passionate advocate for financial empowerment, especially for those struggling families the United Way knows as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed).
Jim is a certified International Credit Union Development Educator (I-CUDE). This expertise is not confined to the work at Peninsula Credit Union or the United States. Jim has leveraged his knowledge across borders, working with credit unions in Africa to pursue the use of cooperative operating principles to help individuals build financial capability and communities inspire economic development.
Jim is a Board Member for America's Credit Unions and serves on the Advocacy Committees and as chair for the Payments sub-Committee. He's a past chair for the GoWest Credit Union Association's Governmental Affairs Committee, the WesPay Regional Payments Association Board and Nacha (National Automated Clearing House Association).
Jim's influence extends beyond finance. He chairs the Mason County Citizens Commission for Elected Officials Salaries with previous service to the Economic Development Council of Mason County, City of Shelton’s Taskforces on Homelessness and Financial Sustainability and The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound. He's also passionate about giving back, supporting the CU4Kids at Seattle Children's Hospital and the Shelton YMCA.
Jim has been recognized as the "2021 Credit Union Advocate of the Year," "2019 President's Choice" by the Shelton-Mason Chamber, and "2010 Distinguished Credit Union Professional of the Year." He holds a Master of Business and Public Administration from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
When he's not championing financial well-being, Jim enjoys exploring the world with his husband, Chris. He also enjoys time with his four-legged kids (Rupert and Dolly), fine Pinot Noir wines or cruising the waters on his boat.
