Today, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) President and CEO Elissa McCarter LaBorde joined International Advocacy and Regulatory Counsel Erin O’Hern to meet with the Honorable Balaram Adhikari, Nepal’s Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (second from left), to discuss the importance of a strong regulatory framework for credit unions in helping to ensure credit unions operate in a safe and sound manner. FLOOD RELIEF FOR BRAZIL Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU), in partnership with World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), is launching the Brazilian Flood Relief Fund to assist credit unions, their employees and their communities in the devastated southern State of Rio Grande do Sul. WFCU has already allocated an initial $15,000 to Sicredi for humanitarian assistance, and is counting on the global credit union movement to assist with helping credit unions recover once the waters recede. And that's what Erin O'Hern from the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) has to offer to the Nepali credit union fraternity for bolstering the credit union eco system. Erin, besides presenting an insightful paper on the crucial role of the Account Supervisory Committee for ensuring strong internal control, good governance and earning credibility, she also spared time to converse with the Secretary at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty alleviation, the Registrar at the Department of Cooperatives, the NEFSCUN board and senior management and took stock of the current situation, challenges and possibilities in the credit union space. Last september, Elissa McCarter LaBorde, the CEO from WOCCU had also meaningful discussions with the Nepali credit union community during her visit to Kathmandu to take part in the ACCU Forum. NEFSCUN is a direct member of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). It obtained its membership in 2018.
